Use Google Analytics to Monitor your Medical Website Re-launch

November 7th, 2013 | Online Marketing and Management
Use Google Analytics to Monitor your Medical Website Re-launch

The indexed World Wide Web consists of at least 3.57 billion web pages that are increasing by the minute. However, not all websites survive and thrive indefinitely, and some may require a re-design and re-launch. Re-design and re-launch can be an exciting project for a medical or dental practice that is hoping to take on the competition with a renewed online marketing strategy.

The process involves revamping the original website to its core, building new content with a clear, focused message, and providing a completely new feel and look. Behind the new face of the website, the new website structure for success with search engines plays a less glamorous but more important part. If something is fundamentally wrong with the structure, it can cause havoc with the website rankings and traffic when the site is updated.

Close Evaluation of Google Analytics

If a revamped medical or dental website starts receiving lower rate of organic traffic, the first step should be to run the website through a Google Analytics check-up. It may be possible that a particular section of the website, such as the discussion forum or blog, may not have a correct tracking code placement. Assessment of all web pages for tracking code placement will diagnose the issue.

If web page names have been changed during the re-launch, it is important to check whether the URL re-writes were architecture appropriately so that old URLs are re-directed to the new ones. The next step should be to determine through Google Analytics how many page views on the website are resulting in 404 pages. During the process of re-directing pages, detailed one to one re-directs should be preferred instead of a simple bulk page redirecting.

More often than not, website re-launches face teething troubles. Every website builder revamps a website for the better. Therefore, the chances of the traffic getting worse than before are extremely rare. The initial hiccups can be resolved with patience and making an effective use of Google Analytics.
